Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for a full-time, fixed term contract position as a Postdoctoral Researcher with the Power Electronics Research Centre at the National University of Ireland, Galway. This position is funded by Enterprise Ireland and is available from 1st September 2013 to contract end date of 31st August 2014 (12 months).

 

The aim of the Power Electronics Research Centre is to foster links with industry by transferring technology from a strong research base in the University to the wider community. Research areas include renewable energy; sensor technology; battery management, and power harvesting. The focus of this project is on the development of a wireless powered, wearable biomedical device.

 

Job Description:

The successful candidate will be employed to complete the first stage of a 2-stage project. They will be responsible for the delivery of all technical project outputs which are aimed towards the design, build, test and analysis of a demonstrator wireless power system for a wearable biomedical product. Other roles will include liaison with clinicians, industry contacts, a business consultant and other team researchers to ensure that the demonstrator addresses critical end user and clinical needs, while also satisfying potential market demands.

 

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate should have experience in a research and development environment, and strong experience of power electronics for biomedical devices or wireless power systems is essential. Applicants must have a PhD in Electrical / Electronic Engineering or equivalent. The ideal candidate would have at least 5 years experience in wireless power systems for biomedical electronics, electrical stimulation systems or biomedical electronics device development. Candidates should have excellent communication and organizational skills; be highly motivated and passionate about developing new products; and have strong documentation, oral and interpersonal skills.

 

Salary: €37,750 – €46,255 per annum (public sector pay policy rules pertaining to new entrants will apply)

 

Start date: Position is available from September 2013
