The work developed in the digital system design area has evolved from the ASIC and microelectronic design, made in the 90s to the current development of complete embedded systems, including hardware, software and communications. This evolution has been complemented with a large activity in the field of design methods and tools. The current activities in this area are mainly devoted to the following lines:
- Wireless sensor networks
- Reconfigurable systems
- Embedded intelligence
- Interactive systems
All these areas are quite complementary and the research group develops interdisciplinary projects to take advantage of the resources and knowledge in any of the research sub-lines. For instance, the work related with embedded intelligence is currently linked to reconfigurable systems, as the intelligence is being approached based on the dynamic reconfiguration of hardware devices to improve the learning capabilities of the proposed architectures.
The funding scheme of this area is based on public national funds, mainly from Plan Nacional (MCInn), CENIT and AVANZA I+D, EU funds (from FP7, ECOInnovation and ARTEMIS JTI) and also with direct contract with the industry, cooperating with companies as MTP, INETSIS, CAF Signalling, Thales Alenia Space, etc.
