Position: Senior researcher in development of control systems for automotive applications

Tecnalia is the largest private Research, Development and Innovation (R+D+i) group in Spain and one of the leading ones in Europe, with a staff of around 1,400 people. Tecnalia?s lemma is to develop technologies that can be converted in value and benefits for our clients and the overall society. One of the main target of any Tecnalia project is the technology development and transfer towards the industry.

The vacancy belongs to Automotive Business Area. This area?s mission is to create value through technology for a sustainable, safe and intelligent transport. Tecnalia works in solutions for a more sustainable mobility, doing research on new ideas for the future electric hybrid vehicles. In this line of research, electronics and control are more relevant than conventional solutions based on combustion engines, being necessary a new profile in the future engineers in propulsion for electric hybrid vehicles. We are looking for a professional with 4-8 years of experience in the field of advanced control and power electronics (preferably applied to traction systems) looking forward to get involved in the biggest challenge of the 21st century mobility.

Requirements:

o Electronic Engineering, automatic control, telecommunications, preferably MSc in power electronics; Phd will be valued.
o We are looking for a person with knowledge in modelling and simulation of hybrid and electric vehicle systems, such as advanced electric drives, transmissions, energy storage and management systems, using state of the art tools (Simulink, Powersim, Saber..). Proven experience in advanced intelligent control techniques for optimization of the performance of powertrain components. Knowledge in electronic development of engine controllers using rapid prototyping on dSPACE platforms or equivalent, and implementation and validation on DSP and microcontroller, preferably from Texas Instruments family or Freescale. Knowledge of implementation on FPGA will be valued. Experience in regulations applied to the sector (IEC-SIL, ISO-ASIL) will be valued positively.
o Fluency in spoken and written English required. Knowledge of German language will be valued very positively.
o Hiring framed within the European Mobility Programme Marie Curie, being a compulsory requirement to fulfill the following elegibility criteria: At the time of the deadline for submission of applications, candidates must not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in Spain for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to the reference date. Short stays, such as holidays, are not taken into account.
o Experience of SW development on DSP TI, Freescale, etc. platforms – Knowledge of modeling and simulation of different electric systems, such as electrical machines and power inverters- Knowledge in traction problems of vehicle applications -Programming in C for microcontroller and DSP. Knowledge of electric/electronic automotive architectures.
o Advantages: Phd or a Master’s degree in power electronics, previous involvement in research projects related to development of hybrid and electric vehicles, etc.
